6U INFORMATION

The 6U program meets from 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays on the Olympic Rink at the Big Bear Arena and runs from October through February.

6U is for boys and girls ages 5-6 (Birth years 2018-2017) and is designed for hockey players who can skate on their own.  It focuses on basic hockey drills and starting to learn how to play the game.  Players are also able to attend jamborees/tournaments throughout the season if parents would like to sign their player(s) up for them.

Mandatory Equipment for 6U:

  • Helmet
  • Hockey pants
  • Gloves
  • Elbow & Shin Pads
  • Skates
  • Stick
  • Mouth Guard
  • Hockey socks/jersey
  • Neck Protector
  • Chest Protector

Parents are more than welcome to go on the ice with their player(s) at this level.  Helmets and hockey skates must be worn at all times.

In order to go on the ice, parents must complete a background check, Safesport training, and go to USA hockey and either register as a volunteer or a coach.  All costs are reimbursed by SMHA so submit all your receipts in one email to Diane Maleport when completed.  These are paid in January.
